ACTA in a Nutshell –

What is ACTA?  ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Essential ACTA Resources

  • Read more about ACTA here: ACTA Fact Sheet
  • Read the authentic version of the ACTA text as of 15 April 2011, as finalized by participating countries here: ACTA Finalized Text
  • Follow the history of the treaty’s formation here: ACTA history
  • Read letters from U.S. Senator Ron Wyden wherein he challenges the constitutionality of ACTA: Letter 1 | Letter 2 | Read the Administration’s Response to Wyden’s First Letter here: Response
  • Watch a short informative video on ACTA: ACTA Video
  • Watch a lulzy video on ACTA: Lulzy Video

Say NO to ACTA. It is essential to spread awareness and get the word out on ACTA.

With flist as my witness...

I'm currently standing at 2656 for GaAF (HP/A:tLAB) chapter three. I go back to uni on Monday. I'm gonna get to 5000 words/finish the chapter before then if it KILLS ME.

Wish me luck (and feel free to kick my butt if I don't make good on this)!

Edit: It's not really Monday until I fall asleep. Really. >_> Got 4155 words, gonna keep trying until I conk out, even though I feel like this kitty here.

Phoenix Fic Rec List

Been writing at bit of GAaF which is obviously pretty heavy on the phoenix themes. Here's some of the fics that inspired me or are just really good reads. Harrry Potter fandom, with a couple of crossovers.

Author: fuzzy-christmas-socks
Crossover with Lord of the Rings. A little angsty and potentially melodramatic but not dripping in woobie either. Set after Return of the King. Eventual Harry and Legolas slash pairing.

Author: Hiira
Crossover with Naruto. Somewhat angsty beginnings but I rather like the interactions. General premise of Harry finding himself in Konoha and becoming a part of the community, not a ninja though which is a nice change. Set before the timeskip, for now.

Author: SofiaDragon
A must-read story for the genre which has been kicking around for years with erratic updates. One of the longest 'Harry in phoenix form' stories. While not the most realistic (shh, it's magic), it's cute while not glossing over the Big Plot Issues.

Author: esama
This only has one lovely long chapter, I really wish she would update, this is probably the story that inspired me the most and I will be giving credit when the first chapter comes out. Also has a SURVIVAL ELEMENT, which I'm all over like white on rice. Nomnomnom.

I feel like I'm missing a few so I'll probably add more later. Feel free to point me in the direction of any others you know of.

I've been working like mad on research for my last two assignments this term, getting up at nine and spending 6 hours + in the library for the past week. Now? The day before submission? Can't be arsed. Practically ready to type everything up and I can't be bothered . Wow, self.

Fuck, fuck, fuck.

A cocktail in a can plus 400 words and counting of my Avatar: The Last Airbender / Harry Potter crossover, chapter 3.

Considering all the shit I've been going through at uni (and all that's to follow *lalala, not listening*), I think I deserve a night of ficcing. Yaay~

I completely should not be this happy that I managed under 300 words of A Reason to Live chapter 4. But I kinda am.

I should have known my old plunnies would come out of the woodwork when I went back to uni. Screw Harry's birthday (my self-set deadline), it was obvious that a dissertation on the horizon would have given me a bigger kick then scheduled writing time during the summer break.

Current word count is 2633 and has the tentative title 'The Players Assemble'. Currently trying to work in Hiei and Kurama, plus Harry being a little kickass, the SDF with actual names and (gasp) some plot. \o/ ....... U_U

I'm going to go back and try to write more. Bah, fight scenes. I suck at them. *Patches them over with introspeciveness and purple prose*.

How do people feel about me editing the previous chapters? Nothing plot-wise, just some stuff that I and ffdotnet screwed up in equal amounts as far as typos and formatting issues go. I would probably edit either right after or right before I publish chapter 4 (which, I'm hoping will be done soon but hey, I'm not going to give a date, I was pretty sure about the 31st of July thing but that never happened).
The Harry Potter / Avatar: the Last Airbender plunnie I was talking about here ( http://fateofshadow.livejournal.com/13905.html ) is eating my braaaaain.

I sat down today, after finishing reading THIS http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5398503/1/Embers which is without a doubt the best AtLA story on fanfiction dot net and realised I needed more than just what the cartoon shows to really make this story sparkle.

Sure, I'd thought about commerse and faming techniques, even the cultural blend across the Earth Kingdom (correct me if I'm wrong but Ba Sing Se has a lot of Manchu fashion but the rural girl Zuko stole the chocobo Ostrich Horse from wore traditional Korean dress) but once Vathara's dragon plotline started to worm it's way in I had to counter it even though it's kinda my head canon now with something else.

A Wild Dragon Appears.

FOS Counters with Phoenixes Mythology. A Whole Shitload of Phoenix Mythology.

Is it Super Effective? O_o

Doushiyou... mou taku!

*Currently flailing*

I shouldn't do this, it happens every time I put a new story or chapter up- even though this is just my own shameless version of Toil and Trouble, The PlayPen and Odd Ideas, etc and I've so far only published one crossover idea (Home For Now, which was on this site for a little while though this is a slightly longer edited version), I can't help but stare at my inbox (I think it got worse when I actually got a couple of Alerts and one Fave- now I believe there might be more).

I should go outside. ;_;

Or failing that, work on current fic. That was the whole point of Phoenixes of a Feather- to shove ideas out of my head for a bit while still getting feed back.

Need to work on ARtL, dammit. *slinks away*

The Pizza Man Learned it From Me

Just in case you didn't get the reference.

In other news, made a terrible batch of oatmeal cookies which I didn't think was possible until today. That'll teach me to use the dark chocolate in the cupboard instead of just going across the road for something already sweetened. No, adding more sugar to balance it out does not work, apparently.

The aftermath of bad baking somehow led to me writing lesbian porn.

Logic. I has it.

And as for writing actual fic... er, I wrote up lots of ARtL notes in Ireland? And some for L? Yes. Yes I did. *Stares at notebook* Write yourself, dammit.

The High Road (SPN Big Bang):

My super procrastination skills were at play again in this one, I think I could have pulled it off if I hadn't looked at the conditions again, stating the story needed to be complete with the first draft.
Looks like this is one for next year.

A Reason to Live, Chapter Four:
