Not looking at the pink elephant.

I am so behind on my dissertation, it's not even funny but instead of working on that like I should be (lalala, not listening~) I've been procrastinating by reading shojou and yuri manga.

WHY ARE THERE NO GOOD HEROINES!?! IF I HAVE TO READ ONE MORE COMIC WHERE THE FEMALE PROTAGONIST GETS MOLESTED BY A NEAR STRANGER FOR BEING 'TOO CUTE' I WILL JUST SCREAM, ESPECIALLY IF SHE DOES NOTHING ABOUT IT, ESPECIALLY IS SHE HAS NO SKILLS OUTSIDE OF CUTENESS AND PRACTICALLY NO PERSONALITY. URRRRRRG!!!

True, not all manga are like that, I rather like shoujo and josei manga on occasion, I finished reading 'Girl Friends' a few days ago which was an adorable shojouai manga with real personality and a good grasp of emotions without being omgtheangstitburnsssssss.

Just, urgg, rampant mysogyny and bad writing, I want to stab it in the face.

EDIT: I have discovered 'Code Breaker', though I'm only 4 chapters in right now. Why is it that a shonen manga has more interesting and independant women in it than those manga aimed at women?

JAPANESE LOGIC. YOU MAKE NO SENSE.

This is why I stopped reading manga, and started reading X-Factor instead. It's Marvel, and it's got superheroes of all kinds in it (including women with big boobs and a guy who likes kissing his boyfriend, so it evens out).

I like it.

Ooooh, I'll have to look it up. Recently got into the Batman fandom so Marvel's not too much of a jump. Also, anything to stop me counting down the days to Avengers.

Though, lol, I thought you meant the talent show X-Factor for a minute there and was a little confused 'Simon Cowell has a comic series now...' Hmm. That thought scares me. >_>

It really can be hard to find a manga with female characters that don't make a girl want to scream.

I know. And even when you do find a good one, 10 to 1 there will be blatant fan service in every second chapter, or the female protagonist will get have to saved despite the fact that she is kickass. Take the Bleach fandom for example. I love Rukia and Orihime, I think they're great characters with lots of personality but I can't help but feel that the series would have been better if they got 1) a larger role and 2) didn't get captured all the time. I want Ishida or Ichigo to be the princess in the tower, just once. *le sigh*

Re: dissertation....I know that feel. I'm working on my presentation for my dissertation over spring break, and I feel like I want to throw myself out the window.

Good luck with your presentation~
